I rather like the mystery myself. It took me (as an IT outsider whose first and only computing experience was Perl) a long time to realise what AFAIK, RTFM, LOL, ROFTOLSDF etc stood for, but that was like when you go to a new country and for a while you don't know what the road signs mean and how the money works, but then you work it out and you begin to feel part of things. The working it out and getting one's accent right and so on are all part of the process of aculturation. IMHO.
