Funny html rendering after recent PM changes

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but thought I would mention it. After a bit if a hiatus, ironically to focus my time on a perl project for work, I noticed some odd PM behaviors upon my return. I frequently encounter pages that fail to wrap to the width of my browser window. This seems to happen at random, in any section. It's very annoying because it spreads the page out to about 50% wider than my browser window. So I need to scroll right several inches to see the CB. It does this using IE5/6 or NS4 on Win2k and OSX.

Has anyone else been experiencing this? Am I correct that it began after some fairly recent changes (~3 weeks or so). Any ideas, suggestions? Can it be fixed?

Are you sure you didn't play with your Code Wrap settings?

Does the problem go away if you log out?

I've encountered that too, but it's usually a case of somebody goes and kicks the server and the next time I come back, the problem is gone.

And I think I noticed it happening more than 3 weeks ago, but like I said, it goes away, so why worry about it too much?

There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling now.

No, we don't kick the server. An editor fixes the node that is improperly formatted (usually by replacing PRE tags with CODE tags).

I didn't see any particular pattern. Certainly nothing like Mr. Muskrat's example which I think I would have recognized as the problem. But the PRE tags make sense. (as I just demonstrated to myself when I tried to include <PRE> in this message without escaping it). Any text just over the "border" of a frame the size of my browser window would force it to stretch and resuire a right scroll. Thanks tye for the explaination. Now if we can just get everyone to preview, editor intervention won't be necessary.

I see this as well, I thought it was some dodginess in my CSS theme, it hasn't happened often enough for me to either pin point exactly what the problem is or get frustrated enough to mention it...

I've noticed it as well. It's usually due to a really long string of characters that doesn't get broken up like URLs usually are.

Ah. i thought that it was just to ironic that this happens to me right when I'm reading a node about it. Sigh. The universe is not quite as silly as I had thought it to be for a moment.
