I agree that connecting sensors to humans would not be very beneficial. Human senses are exquisite. What I really need is a few terabytes of error-free, short-term memory! That was the machine-mind interface I was thinking of. It would definitely make me a better programmer. Unfortunately, programs built by people with augmented memory would probably not be maintainable by normal humans.
