No clues for you, but I experienced a similar problem yesterday
while compiling the latest Gimp on my brand spanking new
Mandrake 7.1 install w/ Perl 5.6.0. The configuration script
bombed out claiming it couldn't find PDL::Core in
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.0/i386-linux
yet it was most definately there. Weird. I had to disable
Perl in the Gimp install in order to continue. :(
