Always consider the ease of updating by somebody who doesn't really understand the system deeply.
I'm the only one who will be updating the system for the forseeable future, but the data is stored in a Perl module in a simple format, so anyone who can edit any of my other scripts won't have a problem adding new items.
Unless you aren't planning on getting paid, get paid in advance.
It's part of a regular job, but thanks anyways--that's always good advice.

Ah, no, I meant updating the items being sold.

Bah, I can't write today. It should be possible for people who know nothing about computers (or at least programming) to update the list of items and (more importantly) prices. Even if this is a computer (or related) compony, the people doing pricing are likely to be busniessmen, not comptuerpeople.

I knew that that was what you were talking about. :^)

This is a very small site (it's an author's promotional site--I'm selling autographed books, and the custom aspect is that I need to be able to carry around the name of the person each copy should be autographed to), and I'm the webmaster and sole worker, so I'm not too worried about others being able to manipulate the price database.

My experince with writing shopping carts is from a small busness -- just me and my best friend. I thought the format was pretty simple, but Mark, for the life of him, couldn't change prices, so it eneded up taking both of us (I have no head for busniess, and numbers in purticular), which lead to our prices being constantly out of date... which is one of the reasons my address is no longer james@rtweb.net, if you get my drift.
