Since when did every single network-utilizing application become "web based?" Everything you're describing works perfectly fine as a network-based application. "Web based" only offers the advantage of using a browser as a GUI. HTTPS isn't the only possible protocol and rarely is the best. I thought this type of blind sheep mentality became extinct with the dotcoms. Guess I was wrong.
