Earlier today while composing a reply to an existing post I had only one option: <Submit>. At that time I was operating on a record small amount of sleep, and I hit submit - and was presented with a page of my post at top and an edit field below (prefilled with the source of my post).
Being a sleep-deprived fool I thought that I was looking
a preview of the post, with the source below for editing
- so I hit submit (again).
(Yes I *did* miss the small change that the title now
started with "RE:")
I realized what I had done at the same time that I started seeing /msg from monks in the Chatterbox :-(
My point(s) &/or opinion(s) related to this are:
- Preview is a good idea.
It should be available both when posting new nodes, and when replying to existing nodes. - From a HCI point of view I think that the buttons should be named the same everywhere: 'Preview' and 'Submit' (not 'new')
- After processing 'Submit' for a reply, a more logical
result / destination page would be either:
- back where you were when you clicked 'Offer your reply'
- At the 'replied to' article with all replies threaded below (including yours)
It may have been a side effect of the lack of sleep (or just depending too much on the content of the 'Site How To' node), but it took a /msg from a another monk (thanks kudra) before I figured out:
- that I could & how-to edit my accidental posts
- to request the duplicates be deleted at Editor Requests
Perlmonks is a great site, keep up the good work!
Thanks for listening to my $0.02,
Think I'll go to bed now,
