Enclose your code above in a BEGIN block. It will be evaluated
at compile-time.
Update: Drat! Beaten to the punch again!
Update 2
Well, I'll be snookered! I wasn't sure about that behavior
(though I should know to trust wog by now), because BEGIN
also runs at compile time, but I tested it and indeed, it is
so! My most humble apologies and wog++.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
