Ok Folks, now it looks like real code...
$file = 'Win.ini';
$tmp = "$file.tmp";
chdir ("\\\\servername\\winnt") || die "$!\n";
open (FL, "$file") || die "$!\n";
open (TMP,">$tmp") || die "$!\n";
while (<FL>){
$_ =~ s/als/ald/g;
print TMP $_;
}
close FL || die "$!\n";
close TMP || die "$!\n";
rename ($file,"$file\.old") || die "$!\n";
rename ("$file\.tmp",$file) || die "$!\n";
I'm getting the error when I try to create the TMP
filehandle.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
