Even running your own server doesn't guarantuee 100% reliability on any but the messages fed directly to your
server. Messages sent to a newsgroup you carry but via a another news server may never reach you.
Oh, sure, but I can peer with as many servers that are
willing to peer with me. Perlmonks, OTOH, is a single
point of failure - if vroom decides to stop, all the information
is gone. If people make mistakes, parts of Perlmonks could
be wiped out as well.
I won't claim Usenet is 100% reliable, but I wouldn't bet
everything of Perlmonks is still available after 10 years.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
