The UN is there for a good reason, and taking unilateral action (competantly or not) is a bad thing (tm). If people are going to die for democracy it seems to be only fair to try and impose their deaths through a democratic institution which can claim some kind of international democratic legitamacy.

Of course it'd be better if people weren't killed in the first place. Perhaps the security council countries ought to stop being the biggest arms exporters in the world bar none. It's quite difficult to be an evil despot without having any weapons in the first place. And without armed despots the need for UN military action is rather drastically reduced.

I think it's incredibly naive to say that christians don't become terrorists. What about the Klan? What about Pius XII?

OK, rant over. Sorry for getting sucked in to this. I will attempt to stick to perl in the future!

Happy midwinter feast appropriated from paganism by the early church.

Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
