With enough time and entropy the winners will reveal themselves.
Ah, but if were only so easy to determine who the winners are. Even if we could determine what's most popular in terms of developer community, that would not reveal popularity in terms of real use, and that would not tell us if the developers and end users are happy with the winner.
In other words, poor solutions can persist.
