Also, the .NET 1.1 SDK on my system does not contain any msvcrt.lib files, just the msvcr71.dll.

I spoke too soon, again.
The .NET 1.1 SDK created directory...
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\
...and it contains all the proper Run-Time libs.
(I had everything else installed under drive E:)
