Why should only level 6 be able to easily see the node type?

They shouldn't. I said "added" not "moved from" :-)

It seemed like every time someone added a nodelet, they had it display node ID number and node type. Both of these should be displayed under the node title, perhaps similar to how super search does it (and removed from most of the nodelets).

This sounds like an excellent idea.

    Sorry, I was temporarily thinking that Node Status was only for Level 6 and up because it is about approval. Silly me.
