Learning to Parrot

For anyone who's unfamiliar with Parrot, it's the virtual machine that will be used for Perl 6. (See http://parrotcode.org).

After spending a number of years on the internals list for Perl 6, I've finally managed to get my hands dirty. I was put off for a long time by the steep learning curve I faced and the time constraints of a busy schedule. And while I'm still finite, I have started to work on the learning curve. And I've decided to document it.

So for anyone who is interested, I have set up a blog tracking my progress and explaining things as I learn them. I hope this will make learning easier for others in the future and encourage more community participation in Parrot. I will be working on this, and Parrot, as time allows (a variable).

I don't assume much knowledge, so nearly anyone should be able to read and understand. In fact, one of my first posts is about using binary files, a topic which has eluded me up till now as a perl programmer but is assumed knowledge for Parrot.

Of course, there are probably errors and inadequate explanations lurking about, so feedback is both welcome and appreciated.

Update: There are several feeds available as well: RSS RSD atom
