Do you mean the serial number is in the data near the middle, or it's written as text on the CD itself?

If the former, look for ways to read the CD. If it's the later, buy a scanner.

I don't believe there is any standardized correlation between information printed on the surface of of a CD, and tthe data encoded on that CD.

If there was, CD-Rs would be a lot less usefull.

In addition, CD-ROM drives have no way of reading data printed on the surface of the CD itself.

(In essence, what you are asking is bascialy equivilent to: "Is there a CPAN module that can tell me the serial number stamped on the outside of my hardrive?")

I do not believe this number is user-accessible. You will have to manually read this off of your CD.
