Apparently I am one of those US-centric date mongers. Having had some sense beat into me by mdillon and ar0n , the date format requirement for birthdays is:

<!-- birthday:yyyy/mm/dd -->

The format of mm/dd/yyyy will also be recognized, but the yyyy/mm/dd format is preferrable.

Thanks again to mdillon and ar0n for trying to make me a better global citizen.
