OT: Lunch Break

In the middle of reacting to node PERL/MySQL Punch Clock, I realized it would be fairer to post it here instead.

He mentioned:

The application must be able to account for the special case of an employee being "Out to Lunch"... and when calculating time, subtract the time out to lunch from the primary table of "Arrival/Departure".
I'm sorry, this comment may be a LITTLE BIT misplaced and would probably attract a few flames, but I assure you it concerns us all...

When I go to lunch, it's either I was already pushed into it by the amount of gastric juices accumulated from the time REAL lunch break that started around two hours ago or that the constant thought of work dilemmas gives me indigestion after the break -- both on account of company matters which the company does not count. This lunch break also happens to be part of the time my kids may have needed my physical presence but I couldn't be there because it is within (or in between) company time. And so on.

My question: is it not also our role as scientists of logic and mathematics to help enlighten our cow-orkers in management, at the very least in this particular instance, about the value of breaks in increasing labor productivity (and not the other way around), but more importantly about management's *sometimes* myopic focus on profit and oversight of employees as people?

You're projecting just a little bit, aren't you? How do you know what the purpose of tracking the lunch time is? You don't know if it's paid or not. You don't even know what sort of job this is supposed to track. Take it easy.

The "rat-race" is the number1 enemy of mankind. We have lost all "quality of life", in order to squeeze profits out of living in the "fast lane". The "system" has brainwashed our generation into believing that the push for "capitalist profits" is more important than enjoying living. What a lie has been perpetrated on us all.

I'm not really a human, but I play one on earth. flash japh
