    doesn't work for me (no output, no error) at Perl 5.8.4/WinXP.

      I think it's the '\ec'-sequence (which clears the screen) that MS Windows has a problem with, but I don't know.

      As cog pointed out, 'amazing' might be the wrong word to describe the code, so you aren't missing out on anything special :).
