I like chipmunk's idea to use hashes. read through both files basically saying: $masterlist{$fileline}=1; then do a foreach on the keys of masterlist to get all the records. Because hashes can't have dupe keys, you should be ok. From what you wrote of your attempts, it sounds like you are not as interested in REMOVING items, because time will take care of that.
