Perlmonks The Musical

by marto (Cardinal)
on Jul 26, 2005 at 09:20 UTC ( [id://478100]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Greetings !

Over the last day or two I have been involved in a CB discussion in which I proposed Perlmonks The Musical.

Songs could range from the fantastic I'm a Believer, improved by Detonite to songs about specific modules (a Quadrophenia esq chant of "we are the mod(ules)" perhaps?) or functions.

In the CB yesterday various monks posted some very funny (some terrible like my "ODBC DBI" song to the tune of "O-Bla-De-O-Bla-Da" by the Beatles) suggestions.
Can anyone else think of any other good songs for PM the musical?

Martin

    How about refactoring Metallica's "Am I Evil" to "Am I Eval" or maybe just some chromatic scales for a more minimalist approach?

    The test-first song

    (I apologise to everybody for rhyming "motherboard" with "thank the Lord" :-)

    I just thought of a song XML::Writer to the tune of Paperback Writer by the Beatles.

    I like this song from ikegami's homenode:

    <belg4mit> wog it would, /me never meant to imply it wasn't. TIMTOWTDI
    <belg4mit> (do people say tim-tau-titty?)
    Zaxo says diddy-wah-diddy
    <belg4mit> diddy dum diddy doo
    <belg4mit> seriously though
    <pjf> There she was, just a-coding something neat, singing tim-tau-titty diddy dum diddy doo.
    <guillaume> timtoady
    <belg4mit> pjf++ lol!

    How about "$my elsif and die" to the tune of "Me myself and I" by De La Soul.
    And the musical could end on "The Perl you want" to the tune of "The girl you want" by Devo :)

    I can't believe that nobody's suggested this ( or I'm really old...) but having Pe(a)rl Bailey or Minnie Pe(a)rl singing in the musical would really be spot on. :)

    Useless trivia: In the 2004 Las Vegas phone book there are approximately 28 pages of ads for massage, but almost 200 for lawyers.

    "I did it..."

    my $way;

    Update: Or if needing a song lyric (er... spam?) generator, here is a quick prototype, which serves very roughly to inspire if perhaps not completing the job as yet. (Maybe a later version?)

    open ALL, '</usr/share/lib/dict/words'; my @stuffed = <ALL>; chop @stuffed; my $blurt = ''; # sentence size 3 .. 15 for ( my $ss = 3 + ( 13 * rand() ); $ss > 0; $ss-- ) { my $pick = $stuffed[ ( $#stuffed )* rand() ]; $blurt .= "$pick "; } chop $blurt; print "$blurt.\n";

    Output:

    run 1) abhorrent befogging sloven Dudley Tristan Bernadine Kelly hardhat satan spectrogram.

    Update 2) wham north tail glue.

    Update 3) "Anderson signify Hepburn pile humane."

    Perl's are a girls best friend <-> diamonds are a girls best friend from Jannet Jackson?
    use the Chart::Mountain <-> Dutch mountains from Bolland and Bolland.
