rvosa has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Dear fellow eager followers of perl6 development(s),

How come there haven't been any updates in "This week in perl6" at http://www.perl.com since August 14th? Is everything okay?

No, nothing's wrong. We've just received a Perl 6 summary email with the subject "Summary for the last 3 weeks". Unfortunately, this is the nature of volunteer work. When life's priorities get in the way, the volunteer work tends to slip (which is OK, really).

    Cheers,
    Ovid

New address of my CGI Course.

      OK, that makes sense :)

I should probably add that I think all those involved are doing a great job and that I'm just excited to see the perl6 stack (pugs/parrot/ponie) get adopted. I wrote my first perl6 japh not long ago:
      'Just another perl6 hacker,'.say
yeah, it's not that exciting, yet ;-)

I did get it to compile to parrot, and then to .pbc, and have parrot associated with that extension, so I can just run it by double-clicking. World domination can't be far now.

In North America, and perhaps many other places, the end of August and early September is a time for that last summer vacation, moving back to school, moving your kid(s) back to school, back to school shopping, and several weeks of awful commuter traffic.

There are other lulls corresponding to American Thanksgiving, Winter Holidays (Christmas, New Year's, etc.), Chinese New Year, spring term resumption, Spring Break, Finals Week, and Summertime In General.

It's amazing how many people are indirectly affected. Even the extra hour of commuting until the masses figure out a more efficient traffic pattern will affect time available for real work.

I wonder how many volunteers were seasonally impacted?

Perhaps someone can run a histogram of CPAN uploads by day of the year? Ah, well, there are probably more important things to do...

We (at Perl.com) decided to change the way we do the summaries slightly, for various uninteresting reasons. I've been out of the office for two weeks, so I haven't put up a link to the new version yet.

Also note that you can browse the mailing list archive and you'll be able to read the summary as soon as it goes to the list. Or you can subscribe to the list and get the summaries in your inbox (albeit with all of the other list traffic, but you can filter everything else away if you don't care for it).
