Thanks for writing this--I'll ++ it tomorrow when I have votes.

I'm guessing that the Offensive player will, indeed, do better than a defensive player, at this game. The comp.ai FAQ says that Connect Four has been solved as a win for the first player, whereas Tic-Tac-Toe is solved as a guaranteed tie. I'll be running the program basically 24/7 and let ya know how the results turn out.
