Basically, the number of companies listing Perl as a job pre-requisite is large relative to other technologies and has been consistent. It can be illuminating to see this trend graph, which shows the percentage of jobs that contain the search terms: ASP, C, C++, C#, Java, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby and .NET on job-aggregator site indeed.com To deduct any any meaning out of it is left as an exercise for the reader.
