PhD in physics No research jobs available without moving around a lot Kids + husband + house Change career... am experienced programmer (FORTRAN) Got job eventually because knowlege of FORTRAN Worked for 1st time on Unix, thought it was cool Learned 'c'. s'ok Learned tcsh, even wrote programs in it (bad choice, but still cool learning experience) Discovered Perl accidently (providence??)
