I'm not certain, but I don't think merlyn likes to be referred to using his real name, unless you happen to know him.

I remember seeing a message where he took someone to task for that. I can't find it now, but I'm sure it's in Super Search somewhere, if you're really curious.

It would be also nice if you would take the extra moment to include the hyperlink code when pointing to outside sites.

I'm not offended in the slightest by people using my realnametm.

I do get a bit peeved when the second L sneaks in, so spell it right!

Forgive me for what I am about to write, brothers and sisters.

This does strike me as a bit of a snotty response, IMHO.

Lots of people use merlyn's real name on this site, and I
bet he doesn't know all of em. (Most, probably, but never all :P).

It seemed just the other day people were waxing lyrical on how to never turn away
a valid contribution to the site, even if it is from a known Troll. Well,
(compared to DiscoStu's track-record), this seems like a pretty valid contribution
to the original thread. So what happens now, after he/she sees this reponse?

    Flame On, methinks.

I am not advocating Trolling, but I felt I should comment on this node as it may turn out to cause more harm than good (I am NOT saying it was intended to cause harm, but ZydecoSue did seem quite terse and loaded with meaning.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, I give you, my two cents.

Thanks for your two cents and I'm sorry you took it that way. I appreciate the feedback and used one of my freshly granted votes accordingly.

I apologize if the response seemed snotty; it was based on reading older nodes posted originally by merlyn himself. The link comment was based on what is mostly (but not completely) a joke. (It's also based on a personal preference. If you're going to the trouble of finding a link, why not take the extra step to make it easy to go to that location?)

The advice against calling The Man by name is also based on a previous post. I'd provide a link, but I can't. I'm sorry. I saw it while reading some other the previous flame wars where someone addressed him by name and he took umbrage at the fact.

I'll admit that these are obscure nodes, but I found them while lurking before joining.

It was not and is not my intention to be snotty. In fact, I worked very hard to muster as civil a response as possible, a difficult task given certain public (and private) comments in the chatterbox.

I was under the impression that it was best to take nodes at face value and to, as far as possible, strip content from presentation.

I have been dutifully admonished and will endeavor to work on my skills in those areas.

Update: I'm not offended by your words, azatoth, honest. I just don't want to be -t'ed by the person I originally responsed to, despite the similarity of names.

        No, No, No!

I did not want to pass judgement on you, your ideals, or your style. Just let my thoughts flow is all. A community is based on opinion after all, so mine and yours make Perlmonks what it is.

Sorry if I offended, I am upset if you are :)
