in reply to Redhat up2date breaking mod_perl installation

Folks

I had all back working only after I uninstalled mod_perl and reinstalled it again. I didn´t know how to uninstall, but I found a very usefull uninstall menu at the 'others' tab at Webmin (the free control panel software that comes with RHEL). To reinstall it was pretty easy, following the regular mod_perl installation procedure.

And I've definatelly deactivated this damn up2date, for this was just like a trojan horse for me!

Hope this post helps other victims!

André

Please. Do not deactivate up2date. It's better to deal with the odd issue like this than to have your machine utterly "p0wned" because you aren't installing the latest security fixes anymore.

It is better to abandon RedHat altogether to go with a distribution whose package manager you trust better than it is to disable the security updates for the distro you're using now.

I hope this post helps you before you become a victim...

Probably best to run it interactively and just skip all the perl and httpd stuff.
