The missing options (in no particular order):
- With my wife.
- In my parent's basement.
- While dreaming.
- On long flights.
- Through life.
- With anger.
- On a houseboat.
- A true Perl hacker, being lazy, writes a script to sleep for him.
...just silly of course. Fun poll, ysth.

with my wife? I don't believe that's legal in CA.
uhm, how about with my spouse? or my husband. ;)

Well, in my case it's wife, and it should actually read, "I only sleep with..." "mostly" doesn't have the connotation of exclusivity that would be more accurate. :)

With my wife. Or husband. Or partner. Or pet. ;-)
Also, I was hoping for the tounge-in-cheek option: while (time < $start_time+$sleep_secs) { }

I don't sleep. Not lately, anyway.
BTW, would the person who said that children are wonderful explain what's so wonderful about a child speaking in your ear at 2:30 AM? We're never going to get that mark off the ceiling. I had no idea I could do a double backflip with a reverse from a completely relaxed, fully horizontal position. I screamed, my wife screamed, the kid screamed, then my wife was mad because I scared the child. Well, fair's fair, the child scared me, and at least HE was wearing diapers.
This, mind you, after the time where the boy woke us up five times in one night. On the fourth time, I sensed him walk into the room and, without opening my eyes or moving my body, said "boy, you'd BETTER be on fire." After the fifth time, my wife returned to the room, woke me (like I'd be sleeping anyway), and said "Remind me of this if I talk about having another one."

ahh, no doubt many many people will relate to your little tale :)
When my firstborn came along I was living in Alice Springs, Central Australia. My wife and I were thoroughly enjoying our DINK lifestyle (the first definition). I was a shifworker, and used to spend almost all my (substantial amount of) free time either playing golf, or drinking beer after playing golf :D
And then Daniel arrived....
Fair dinkum, during those first few months after we bought him home from the hospital I honestly believed that my life was over. That kid had the most incredible set of lungs, and boy did he know how to use them! ....constantly ...day and night.. sleep? ...hah! I believe at one stage I completely gave up on the idea of trying to sleep, because I knew that I would be woken up almost immediately after I managed to doze off.
But thankfully, he settled down after a month or two and has been an (almost) complete angel in the 17 years since :)
I've almost fully recovered now, although as some people have noticed, I still have a tendancy to yawn quite a bit ;)

As any parent can tell you, the person who came up with the line "he|she sleeps like a baby" to mean "deeply and quietly asleep for long periods" didn't have children.
Nor did the marketdroid who came up with "0 - 3 month" sizes for babies. Everybody I know with full-term babies could no more put the "0-3 month" size clothes on their newborn than one can put a hawser through the eye of a needle.

There is much in what you say, but I think this world is designed by scrawny rice-cake-chompin' people with ethnic backgrounds that are associated with shortness and smallness. I am 6'2" and descended from German farmers, and they do NOT build this world for people my size. Heck, I have trouble getting in and out of Japanese mid-size cars!
I can only imagine what people who are REALLY big and tall, like NBA and NFL players, have to deal with: cars, clothes, etc etc etc. It's just the man keeping us down, I s'pose.

While it may be legal in CT (see Re^2: I mostly sleep...), my wife would get upset if I were sleeping with davido's. Davido may be upset, too, but I know my wife would be quite angry.

'Everybody says "Sleep when the baby sleeps"'
As any parent will tell you, this is impossible: babies only sleep when their parents are awake. The only way around this is to have the grandparents come over, and go to a hotel. This only works with grandparents. Aunts, uncles, cousins, and unrelated baby sitters do not have this magical property.
Of course, when the parents come back the baby, being well rested, is once again prepared to keep his or her parents awake. And God help those who have twins, triplets, or any other multiples. Then, the babies switch back and forth so they're not sleep-deprived by keeping mom and dad up.

Well actually we have a medium 2000 spring matress on a fixed devan. Springs are in 2 layers so the matress is nice and thick. No way even the most royal of princesses could pee through it (or something - Terry Pratchett).
I'd prefer a firm matress on a sprung devan, the wife a soft matress on fixed so this is a compromise. | [reply] |

Everywhere else I fall asleep easily. Last time at the dentist (they like to impress clients with their "extra care" and so these days are into taking blood pressure) I impressed them with 72/56.
