I'm a 20-year-old University of Waterloo Computer Science student. I'm really glad I don't have many more classes in Java. I used to like it, but I discovered Perl on a co-op term in February 2006, and have been enjoying working with it ever since. I imagine I'm one of a depressingly small number of my young programmer contemporaries who isn't enamored of Java.
I have seen how disgustingly bad it is on cell phones. I have compared the speed of my Perl and C++ programs to Java. One can do more with two lines of Perl than with 15 lines of Java.
The more I work with both, the more I feel that Java is for resumes, Perl is for getting things done.
