sanPerl has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Dear All,
I apologize for putting this question in perl forum. I did Not get any help form Mozilla Newsgroup and hence I am hoping to get some help from Perl community.
Here is my problem in short.
I decided to migrate from Windows to Red-Hat Linux as a Desktop few weeks ago. I am using ThunderBird & Mozilla as Mail-client and Browsers. In both the applications, when I try writting e-mail/Fill any form on web. My cursor is semi-transperent. Which I can Not see while typing the letters. Hence I do Not understand which Line I am typing into.
Please advice me in case I need to use some options/programming here. Also if possible could some guru guide me to some good basic tutorial on programming Thunderbird/Mozilla?
Regards,
Sandeep Deshpande

    Hi,

I'm not a Red-Hat Linux fan, but this is not important... and besides this is a lil' off-topic, let me try...

First, if you need help, you need to provide more information, like, what window manager, package versions, etc.

Sometimes this problems are because of a bad configuration setting, one way to test it, is creating a new user, say 'luser' or 'peter' or whatever you want to call it, then doing a login and start the apps. if you don't experience this problem, then it's something with the configuration, otherwise it could be a problem with a/some package installed or missing. If it's something with the configuration, and easy way to solve it, is removing the configuration directory/files of the app., and, usually you end up removing also the directory of the window manager...

Hope this can help you in some way. But, with the lack of information, I can't tell more...

    Regards,

I would look at the cursor-color setting into .gtkrc-2.0. It probably has a theme in which the cursor color matches the background. Did you try to adjust colors in the Preferences for Mozilla? Try playing with the settings in Preferences/Appearance/Color, maybe set a black background and see if the cursor appears. Or change gtkrc theme( google for gtk2 themes)

I'm not really a human, but I play one on earth. Cogito ergo sum a bum

could some guru guide me to some good basic tutorial on programming Thunderbird/Mozilla?

I'm assuming you mean adding extentions? I know of none off-hand, yet I see plenty from a google search on the subject; try finding some fairly recent ones there.
