As a photographer I use perl to help me with image tasks.
One task was publishing several photographers on the web:

Using Image::Magick to annotate, resize, create jpegs from images that the photographers upload, and using mySQL to deal with all the keywordsing, etc.

Recent tasks have been to write a short s‎crip‎t to automaticly crop the borders from hundreds of images I have scanned. Photoshop can't do this....but Windoze 2000, ImageMagick and Perl can!
