I'm also interested in helping.

As a reference, I'm just playing around with Jifty and KinoSearch combination for a while, and I'm very very happy with KinoSearch 0.20 features and performance.

It might also be useful to create compressed archive of all XML pages on PerlMonks for other search engine enthusiasts :-)
