Perl support in Google AppEngine

I just read a post on use Perl that requests vote on Perl support in GAE. There are many similiar requests for other languages on the issue list. Perl is on the top list, as this writing, based on vote count (by clicking the star icon). Somehow my mind suddenly filled up with bubbles, and I see .Net, jvm, parrot, facebook, soap, xmlrpc, API, and many others I can't clearly identify.

Not the top anymore, apparently those Ruby guys are organizing...

    We're not surrounded, we're in a target-rich environment!
I hope that GAE add perl :)

I have been promoting the idea of a community project to get Perl supported on Google App Engine.

I have made various contacts with people inside Google, and it seems that the core App Engine team is busy with plenty of other thinigs. However, this does not stop the community from getting something started. We will likely attract perl advocates within Google as we go along, even if they are not on the App Engine team. I would like to see the effort advance until the point where it becomes a simple matter for the App Engine team to embrace Perl.

I have started a project for all people interested in following this effort or contributing toward it.

Please visit the website, sign up for the mailing list, spread the word, and start contributing.

I'd probably try it if it had Perl support, but I don't think I'd build anything serious around it because of the lack of control I'd have. Maybe that's just me....but I just voted for Perl support anyway :)
Well, I have some ideas that might be interesting to me to build on that engine, if Perl is ever supported. I'm interested already in its architecture and start reading its docs. But I stop there. I have no time to try the provided SDK as it's written in Python and I know nothing about programming in Python.

I can't really imagine but I think I can see bigger thing about to happen, more than the inclusion Perl support (because it will probably just happen, sooner or later). Similiar but it's even more than opening accesss for Perl to Apache internal through mod_perl. On one hand, this could be a new market for developers to release their softwares, commercial or otherwise. Of course, in this case, we, Perl programmers, will compete with other programmers, but it's just the nature of business.

I can see that Ruby now outnumbers Perl vote count. Beside Perl, I also voted for JavaScript which is still out of top ten currently.

Regarding this so called Google AppEngine, can you see where Google is heading to after the fact that they launched Android? And will this give some impact to the ongoing development of Perl 6?

Oh, man. Perl is now 3rd behind Java and Ruby. PHP is not to far behind. I did just vote for Erlang :)
