I'd rather drop the "in your message inbox" text, have both counts, and have the link to the inbox available all of the time, not just when I have more than 10 messages. In fact, I'd just put this in the heading for the nodelet (unless the nodelets mechanics doesn't make that easy). - tye (but my friends call me "Tye")
