in thread RFC: XML::Pastor v0.52 is released - A revolutionary way to deal with XML

I must disagree with anonymous Monk. This is anything but SPAM. Yes, there is a joke about 'running a commercial' in there but:

  • - This is a new Perl module available on CPAN. It comes witha standard Perl licence. So, it's not really commercial at all.
  • - Even if it were commercial, it would still make sense to post it here, because it's about a Perl module for which I kindly ask feedback.

I agree, but I also sympathize with AnonMonk.

Posting (at least parts of your node) in two places at once, using ALL UPPERCASE words in the title and make massive usage of bold text made me think of spam immediately.

I was also a bit suspicious why version 0.52 requires a big announcement. It doesn't exactly look like an initial release (although it can be an initial release on CPAN, of course), and your text doesn't tell us what's so special about this version.

Most Meditations also explicitly encourage discussion, and when they focus on a specific module, they ask for feedback. I notice you put an RFC in your title, but you don't tell us anything specific you want comments on.

I'll assume that you want feedback indeed, and not just advertise your module. I can't really comment on the interface because I don't really do XML processing, but I'll comment on a few technical aspects:

      • A few files in the distribution are marked as executable, although they aren't (Changes, Makefile.PL and MANIFEST, for example)
      • The META.yml file doesn't contain license information
      • The tests really only test that some commands didn't die, but they don't test that your module actually works as expected.

        Thanks for your feedback

I'll correct the points you have raised as soon as possible and upload a new version.

With the test scripts, I really need some help. Ideas or code. On the other hand, the last test script "instance03" has much more tests in it which partly do what you would expect. But there needs to be more.

It's true that the posting had a little publicty tuch to it. It's not entirely false. Since, once I have raised myself from writing code, I thought there really was something special about this module. Perhaps I'm wrong. We'll see.

In fact, in the 'code' posting, there are snippets of code attached to it too. So I don't consider it to be the same posting.

        Cheers,

        Ayhan (trinculo)
