Perl Monks at OSCON 2008

OSCON is next week. I'm going but will only be there for a short time. Part of the point of going is to meet other Monks I have not yet met.

So, if you are going to OSCON and would like, in particular, to meet other Monks, then please reply here with details.

I will be in Portland from Tuesday evening through early afternoon Wednesday (22nd-23rd). It would be nice if Wednesday lunch could be a PerlMonks BoF. I've mentioned that at http://oscon.kwiki.org/index.cgi?BoF (the BoF page on the OSCON wiki) but I mostly just linked to this node as a wiki is not a great medium for a multi-person discussion. As decisions are finalized, the wiki can be updated.

It appears that there is a food court at the conference site. Nearby are Subway, Denny's, Red Robin, Burgerville USA, and J Cafe. It'd be nice to eat at a place that makes conversation easy. Those who have been to OSCON before please offer your insights.

Of course, feel free to use this thread to work out arrangements for meetings at times other than during the short window when I will be there. :)

I'll second chromatic's suggestion. It has been my experience that going out (even to the burger joint just up the street) takes too large a bite out of the talking time. And finding a place that doesn't have background Muzak running at the 120-150db level is probably an NP-complete problem....

The lunch set-up in past years has been several pick-up-your-box-lunch lines and a large number of ten-seat tables. There has always been lots of empty table-space at the far end of the room.

I will be looking forward to meeting you.

OSCON usually provides lunch for paying attendees, so a useful approach may be to meet at the TPF booth as a group and then find a table and sit together.

I won't be a paying attendee so maybe if you all get your free lunches you could eat them outside the exhibit hall so I could join you? Or if there are six or less of you, you can all fit in my van and we can go to a nice quiet restaurant somewhere - Thai? I live close by. Tye and TheZip have my phone number if anyone wants to reach me.

I won't be paying either. I was going to find some lunch I could take in.

I'll be at OSCON for the whole week, plus a little bit before, when I'll be working on my talks, and a little bit after, where I hope to participate in local culture.

Wednesday lunch sounds good. I'm happy with the OSCON provided lunch, or going out somewhere. I'm also happy to promote a Perlmonks lunch/BoF/thing in my tutorial, provided a time/place has been determined by Friday. (After Friday I'm in transit).

I will be at OSCON for the whole show, from Monday to Friday, and extending my stay in Portland until Saturday. I have one talk ( MySQL Proxy architecture), two BoFs (MySQL Proxy wizardry and MySQL Sandbox, which is a Perl application) and a few community related booth talks.

I will show up at the TPF booth for Wednesday lunch. In the meantime, you may find me at the Sun booth, where there is an open area with several presentations.

If I find out where to sign up, I would also like to participate to the Perl lightning talks. (the signup link given in the LT page displays an error when I open it).

I'll be there the whole week as well.

I guess I'll be at the TPF booth prior to lunch on Wednesday (11:30 -11:45'ish?)!

    Jim

Update: I might even be convinced to spend an evening on the town, but I'll need to make some prior arrangements for that. ;-)

    Your wish is my commandline.

I'm at OSCON too -- I'll try to be at the TPF booth prior to lunch on Wednesday..
I will be at OSCON although I am not getting there until Thursday - I don't really need an excuse to go to Portland anyways I love it there - Lots of good music going down that weekend also Fleet Foxes are playing at Doug Firs and the PDXPOPNOW fest is all weekend - Plus the microbreweries will be operating at full tilt - Cheers!
