Taking over maintenance of Spreadsheet::ParseExcel

I've taken over the maintenance of Spreadsheet::ParseExcel from Gabor Szabo.

Initially I plan to clean up the documentation, add more working examples and deal with the more egregious bugs. I may try to clean up and document the internals as well so that someone else can take over maintenance and so that patches are more consistent. It will also give me a chance to get ParseExcel and WriteExcel working better together.

Anyway, I've set up a Google Group for discussions relating to the module: Spreadsheet::ParseExcel Group.

Feel free to join, post, chat if you are interested.

Update: I've added a roadmap for Spreadsheet::ParseExcel.

    You rule. This pair of packages is one of the handier crowbars that gets Perl into places it would otherwise never be invited.

    Any chance of getting support for Excel 2.1 files?
      Any chance of getting support for Excel 2.1 files?

      Realistically, no. In fact I am thinking of moving a future release to just Excel 97+ and perl 5.8+ in order to minimise the maintenance difficulties.

      However, if you were interested in just reading strings and numbers I could probably write you a mini-parser for Excel 2 files.

      Open a thread in the above Google Group about it.
