Should line 26 read $remote="$rdest"."/"."$file[$i]";?

Also, if you turn on warnings ( -w ) and use the strict pragma ( use strict; ). Some of these plroblems will jump out at you. One can even wield the prolix ( use diagnostics; ) ...
