.perlcriticrc is your friend. That is where you elect which policies to enforce. Throttle back on those policies just as far as you want -- it won't bite you.
As history here has shown, defaults become defacto standards, and de rigueur requirements.
Imposed by those who neither know nor care for reasoning. Adhered to religiously by those too new to know better, or too lazy to question.
