Got the desired output:

    chomp;

    $hash{$val1}++;
}

@sorted= reverse sort keys  %hash;
#print "After reverse sorting @sorted\n";

################sorts and prints the array salaries in descending orde

          if ($sorted[$i] < $sorted[$j])
            {
