Interesting - I tried, previewed, then posted. Post response was having same title while posting a new question, no sign of mine in Seekers of Perl Wisdom or Newest Nodes

update - just a guess, but maybe newbies are prone to double-posting and so same title in SOPW is supressed?

    Very possibly; in fact, your note tickles a very vague memory of a discussion (somewhere, somewhen) to modfiy implementation of something of the sort.
