I am an experienced programmer in a few languages including assembler and perl. I have not yet immersed myself in object perl, but seeing as I am introducing a new protégé in a project that I wish to use perl for as well as Linux From Scratch I will move to objective perl and teach him.
The project we have planned simply makes the distribution act as nothing but a website run completely with a perl foundation library built on the best libraries I can find that give my perl scripts all features that I want.
I want to use X, but ditch WIMP and replace with a command - or programming - line interface. I don't intend retreating to text mode, after all fonts, styles etc., can be very useful.
I am hoping to do this and intend to release it to the public domain. To me it is just a very exciting project and the ideas I have already that can make website development so much fun lead everywhere - unlike WIMP.
