I wouldn't call this "cargo cult programming"
The point of the original poster wasn't that the dot
was cargo cult programming, but that it encouraged
people to cut 'n' paste VB code into Perl programs, because
there was no translation of the -> to a .

<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
