Hello Perl Monks

I have been using perl for a few years now and I really (really) enjoy the language.
And I want to know more about the language.

So I have a few books here like:

Learning Perl
Intermediate Perl
Object Oriented Perl (just started reading this)

I'm sure there are other books that you know are worth reading.

So in an ordered list (1..5+), what Perl books have you read, that are worth reading?

What books do you feel, helped enhance your knowledge/career, etc in Perl?

I'd really appreciate this coming from you guys.
And my apologies if someone has asked this question, in the past.

    The important thing is to just keep reading. Occasionally you'll come across something really amazing, and sometimes you'll find one that is a total disappointment. Along the way you'll pick up a lot of knowledge (or at least book-smarts).

    I used to keep up a list on my home node. It's still there, and probably worth checking, but the list is really out of date; there dozens if not scores missing.

    Although not about Perl, I have always felt that The Mythical Man Month should be required reading for all programmers/managers/scrum masters/etc.

    It helps to remember that the primary goal is to drain the swamp even when you are hip-deep in alligators.

    Hi stryda42 a big welcome to the monastery,
    I reccomend everytime to start reading Perl Cookbook: dunno where you are in the learning curve but surely you'll find some fields where you know nothing or only few things. Reading working recipies is the fastest way i know to learn. This is a quite old but worth to read book.

    Then as suggested, Modern Perl. Concisely and precisely Modern Perl enligth also darker cornor of the language. If you can read the whole book without problem so you are at a good point.

    Then choose next book thinking in what you need or want you want to do: Mastering Regular expression, Mastering Algorithms with Perl, Learning Perl on Win32 Systems, PerlTk, programming the DBI...

    Only at this point i suggest the reading of High Order Perl: it's tough but an excellent read.

    Maybe i'm a bit slow (i have no scientific or programming background.. sure you better) but consider the first 10 years to learn the basis.. like in kung-fu.

    There are also outstanding concept books that should be on your reading list: the Stevens networking series, a classic algorithms book, the Knuth Art of Computer Programming series to name a few.

        I didn't see it mentioned -- so here is my choice. By far the book I use most is O'Reilly's "Programming Perl". "Learning Perl" with lots of bookmarks and dirty pages is second.

        On a related note, I'm looking for a book on graphics. A few years ago, I bought "Mastering Perl/Tk" and got a few useful things working. But then Tkx came out and I'm lost again. I have studied the much-touted TkDocs tutorial, but it leaves too many holes for me. ActiveState and others list all of the functions and their options, but I can't bridge the gaps. I saw and bought another book recently, O'Reilly's "Perl Graphics Programming", but was disappointed that it doesn't even mention either Tk or Tkx. What else is out there that am I missing?

    There are many excellent books available, its not Perl based and is a few years old but still one of the best computer science books of all time is "Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs" by Abelson & Sussman (see this link).
