Hello every one

I am M S Kumar . I hav recently joined this group so that i could learn more and gain a good knowledge about PERL which i am presently working on. I have Joined as a Software Trainee in Softential a US based Company . Now its my training period and we are learining Perl so i have come across this site which i hope i could gain a good knowledge. Hope i get lots of help and if at all i too can clarify the doubts. Bye M S Kumar

You welcome! Incidentally... first clarification: it's perl (the implementation) or Perl (the language proper), not PERL. See `perldoc -q 'difference between "perl" and "Perl"'` [download] While you're there you may take a look at the various other `perldoc -q difference` FAQ entries.	[reply] [d/l] [select]

Hi msk_0984, Welcome to the Monastery! Make yourself at home. In addition to this site's resources and those at learn.perl.org, I also recommend buying or borrowing from your local library Learning Perl, which is a solid introduction to the language and is affectionately referred to as "the Llama" by members of the community because of the animal depicted on its cover. I found it to be very helpful when I began learning the language and I think that many others here would agree. I wish you every success with your new job and learning Perl. Regards, -- R. S. J. FWIW although I think that should everyone do like him the Perl Monks Discussion section may become rather cluttered and that he may have better reserved the greetings for an appendix to his first "real" post, I did not downvote him. Indeed I did welcome him...	[reply]

FWIW although I think that should everyone do like him the Perl Monks Discussion section may become rather cluttered If that was the trend it was going to be, then we could install a long thread like, uh, The One Which Shouldn't Be Named (because it's so huge and it poses a problem to the site if many people go look at it all at the same time), where every newbie to the site could introduce himself, if that Is what he wants to do. So far, it's not a trend.	[reply]

That's why I didn't post my answer to you... I was just bothered to see ( after having upvoted the original post and your answer) that the original post had a negative reputation, which seemed weird and even nasty to me. Looks corrected now, fortunately :)	[reply]

HI Wazoox, I really agree and welcomes your view in this regard. Like you i am always welcome the new guys. Because we have to share, teach our knowledge and experience to those realy new nice perl guys. Sometimes someone doing their down voting profession regularly. We should not treat like this way. Hiya, everyone! It appears that this is a nice thread to use for people to introduce themselves. I've been here a couple of months now, but never properly said "hello", so I'll take this opportunity to do so now... I'm just a drone in Sector 7G of a large financial institution. I won't name them, but it's in America and it's a Bank.... 8^) I trained to be an Electrical Engineer, but now I program computers. I dabble in Perl, think in C++, and use a few others (Java, C#, VB) in my job. --roboticus	[reply]
