In my one-thousandth post, I thanked vroom for setting up the Monestary.

This time, I look back at the variety of interactions I've had in the past year with you-all. I've laughed, chuckled, fumed, flamed, puzzled in confusion, and nodded in wonder: just about every emotion under the sun.

I've had a chance to show off. I've learned a lot about things I could never have guessed. I've helped some people. I've made a few people angry at me.

And I keep coming back. There's something about being part of a community, and this community in particular, that I cherish and protect. And it's you.

So thank you, all of you, for the contribution you make to me. I'm honored.

    Congrats to you merlyn. The time and effort that you put into this site is appreciated by a lot of us. I find that although your "tone" may be harsh at times, I know that you are simply being yourself, and I can respect you for that, plus the fact that 99.99 percent of the time, you are in the right :-)
    Hope to see another post like this when you hit 3000!

    While I'm new to the Monestary, your excellent contributions through books and articles have been an immense to me over the past three years.

    Just wanted to say thanks!

      I am also very new here and while I spend long hours reading the dry nodes pertaining to Perl. It is a refreshing change to read such nodes. At least much better than those annoying quizzes. Sometimes when i wanted to thank a fellow monk for helping me, I am not able to do so because we don't login at the same time and i can't send him a msg through the CB. It is also annoying to post 1 liner thank you nodes.

      Perhaps there should be a forum here. A place where fellow monks can post anything under the sun, their feelings, frustrations, general discussion, etc and these nodes cannot be voted on. Maybe those nodes on Quizzes can be transferred to this forum too.

      Just a thought.

      UPDATE: Thanks to mirod and kudras for highlighting that msg can still be send thru CB when users are offline. The first time i tried it didn't work, so I assume.

      use Text::Soundex; print soundex ("Skullbowl");

    Congrats, looking forward to your 3000th. No matter what some may think, you provide a continuity that a community needs even if that continuity is occasionally a bone of contention. So often your the first to respond it makes my head spin, keep on keepin on.
