Bod has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

How long does a PAUSE account generally take to be approved?
I submitted an application at the start of the month and, other than the automated acknowledgement email, I've heard nothing since...is this normal?

    G'day Bod,

Your PAUSE ID request shows submission on: "December 6, 2020 23:09"

"PAUSE: Registering as a developer" has:

"... Please allow three weeks for proceeding, which should be the maximum during vacation time. Normally we hope to register you within a week. ..."

    [I suspect a typo there: s/proceeding/processing/.]

Given we're in a major holiday period, I think three weeks, rather than one week, is the more likely wait time. Throw in difficulties people may be having related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and I wouldn't be surprised if that wait time was longer.

It's only been a little over three weeks since you submitted your request. Unfortunately, with the current circumstances, I think you'll just have to wait a bit longer than usual.

I remember even years ago when I wouldn't get a response for weeks at a time, and that was at the height of Perl's hayday. Patience is key.

In the meantime, Bod, here's a good article for you to read as you go forward as a new CPAN author.

Congratulations by the way. I remember when I first got my PAUSE account. I was both excited and nervous. The CPAN was where I uploaded my very first publicly available software, and I haven't stopped since.

Thank you - I share that dichotomy feeling excited and nervous!

I've seen it described as a "rite-of-passage" in this article which gave me some heads up that it was time to get a PAUSE account created. As a side effect of what I write, I am producing some generically useful modules and, if they are useful to me, they might just be useful to someone else so it seems only right to publish them.

Having just about completed the Controlling USB on Raspberry Pi project I also want to share the process in the hope it might help and even inspire others. This will be from setting up the hardware through the software creation to getting it connected to Alexa via AWS Lambda. I am guessing Git Hub would be the natural place for that...

Ping modules@ again. It can take some time.

If a couple more days go by with no response, email Neil Bowers directly, neilb <at> cpan.org.

I planned to do so this week but didn't need to...
My account is now up and running 😊
