The node was labelled "(discussion)", so here's my take on
it. There are several ways to express what I'm trying to
say, but to be diplomatic I will say that it is a matter
The example you gave, Re (tilly) 1: Cross-developing in 5.005 and 5.6 (code)
, doesn't really strike
me as being mean spirited. It is direct, perhaps, and maybe
a bit stern, but it doesn't seem like a personal attack.
It's a sensible response.
What might be the problem is that you stood on the BEGIN
BLOCK landmine with both feet. Use of, or abstinance of,
this particular construct is a hot topic, with vocal
supporters of both sides.
The entire voting system might be politically bent. It
is a possibility considering we are all human. Voting
technique is a very personal thing, and if some choose
to vote for their friends over others, then that is what
they want to do. If you want to vote for the underdog,
or be mean spirited and downvote people you don't like,
it's all part of the community process. It's not perfect,
but it works.
