That is called "using the right tool for the job" or have you never built a system from sources and had to manage before installing Perl or even an interactive editor?
And I advocate that every Perl programmer should learn Awk as well and use it for simple text-processing tasks that fit its model. The GNU Awk manual is easy to read and learning Awk will make you a better Perl programmer.
And if you learn enough languages, you graduate from "Perl programmer" or "XYZ Programmer" to just "Programmer", because now you can learn your nth programming language easily and quickly. Existing codebases will "just make sense" to you and you will achieve enlightenment.
