Does it work on CentOS 7? That would get you a few more years of OS support.

Is it a 32- vs. 64-bit issue?

If all else fails, I suggest setting up a CentOS 6 container or VM for the application, and using a strong firewall. My feeling is that the bugs and security issues in the EOL application are a bigger problem thean the EOL OS.

Damn, that is very possibly a magnificent, practical solution! CentOS 7 wasn't nearly the jump from 6 (I understand) as is the jump from 7 to 8, and Rackspace will support it for several more years, as you point out. I will keep it in mind! I seem to be having some newfound success (described elsewhere) on 8.
